Facial PlasticIf you’ve been thinking about getting a brow lift, you likely have a number of questions about the procedure. We’ve broken down some of the questions we’re asked most frequently and answered them below.
Many people get brow lifts for cosmetic reasons because they feel that a brow lift makes them appear younger and more alert.
Other people get brow lifts to relieve discomfort or improve vision. As skin begins to sag, it can feel heavy on your eyelids or eyelashes, causing eye fatigue. For some, droopy eyebrow skin impedes vision.
It’s important to only get an eyebrow lift for your own personal reasons, not for someone else’s approval or to fit a societal expectation.
There are several options for lifting skin around the eyes: eyelid surgery, called blepharoplasty, which can be performed two ways, or a brow lift.
Upper lid blepharoplasty involves removing skin and fat in the upper eyelids. This procedure requires light sedation and is completed in about 25 minutes. You may experience swelling and bruising for about a week, but minimal pain. Stitches come out of the eyelids after one week.
Lower lid blepharoplasty involves removing or repositioning fat under the eye and tightening excess skin using a small incision. Recovery is similar to upper lid blepharoplasty.
During a brow lift, the surgeon makes incisions just above the brow to lift and tighten skin above the eyes. This procedure leaves scars that are small but sometimes visible. Sometimes the incisions are made in the hairline so that they are less visible.
Eyelid and eyebrow procedures are extremely common and safe. However, as with any medical procedure, there are some risks involved.
Most of the risks are cosmetic, including asymmetric results, excess tissue left behind or corrections that don’t quite go far enough.
Major risks like bleeding, infection or nerve damage are very rare.
While the results of a brow lift last a lifetime, they don’t stop the natural aging process. That being said, most patients enjoy positive results for decades.
