PENTA is a proud supporter of this year’s Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Walk4Hearing event in Philadelphia on October 20.
What Is the Walk4Hearing?
This national event is held at cities across America to raise awareness about hearing loss, good hearing health and communication access. Since 2006, those with hearing loss, their families, friends and hearing health professionals have come together with almost 100,000 walkers and 8,300 teams to share their hearing journey.
The message of Walk4Hearing is simple – you are not alone. You can do something about your hearing loss.
How Are Funds Used?
The funds earned from this walk are used to raise public awareness and provide unbiased information about hearing health. They are utilized to hire advocates at the federal level to support policies and put on research symposiums on relevant hearing loss issues.
In addition to federal programs, the Walk4Hearing provides benefits on a local level as well. Funds raised from the event are used to:
- Provide meeting spaces for HLAA Chapters to support the local hearing loss community and hold seminars
- Help fund college tuition scholarships for students with hearing loss
- Financially assist those that cannot afford hearing aids and other devices
- Establish hearing access in public places through the installation of hearing assistive technology
How to Get Involved
Getting involved couldn’t be easier. If you want to participate in the walk, you can assemble a team, join an existing team or register as an individual walker.
You are also able to support the walk by donating money. You can make a gift in the name of an individual walker or a whole team. Donations are also accepted to the walk itself, and are not required to be attached to a registered walker.
