Chinese medical practitioners have been using acupuncture as a form of natural healing for centuries. The process involves the insertion of thin needles into the body, along with heat, pressure or laser light<\/strong>, in a carefully orchestrated manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does it work?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Proponents claim that subjecting specific points in the body to needling stimulates the nervous system, causing chemicals and hormones to be released into the muscles, spinal cord and brain to encourage healing. Claims about acupuncture\u2019s ability to help hearing loss and tinnitus<\/a> sufferers date back to the 1940s, but there is scant evidence about its effectiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do studies show acupuncture’s effectiveness?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A study<\/a> in the February 2015 issue of International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine <\/em>examined the results of a dozen earlier studies to gauge the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture as a treatment for sensorineural hearing loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The findings indicated that acupuncture did help improve the hearing of some patients diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss<\/strong>, especially when it was accompanied by treatment with drugs.
