It occurs when <a href=\"https:\/\/acaai.org\/allergies\/allergic-conditions\/hay-fever\/\">your immune system mistakes something harmless in the environment<\/a> as a threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hay fever can be either seasonal or last year-round depending on what triggers your symptoms. Some common causes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Pollen from trees, grass or weeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mold spores<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dust mites<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pet hair or dander<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Does Hay Fever Cause a Rash?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your rash is due to hay fever, it\u2019s likely that your skin came in direct contact with an allergen like pollen. Maybe this happened when you were working in your garden or taking a hike through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcnr.pa.gov\/StateParks\/FindAPark\/WhiteClayCreekPreserve\/Pages\/default.aspx\">White Clay Creek Preserve.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also possible for hay fever to worsen atopic dermatitis. Other common causes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Heat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Poison oak, ivy or sumac<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other poisonous plants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reaction to lotion or cosmetics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preventing Hay Fever Symptoms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several at-home methods you can try to prevent rashes and other symptoms of hay fever. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Avoid going outside when pollen counts are high.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep the windows of your car and home closed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change and wash any clothes that you wore outside and shower to remove any pollen in your hair or on your body.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t hang clothes out to dry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wash your bedding weekly in hot water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a dehumidifier to keep humidity in your home low<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try using over the counter antihistamines, nasal sprays, and\/or creams<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visit an Allergist to Determine the Cause of Rash<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you believe your rash is caused by hay fever, it might be wise to visit an allergist.
